About: Overview

Unicorn Centers, Inc. is a vocational training and job placement agency for adults with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities. Unicorn is located in San Antonio, Texas.  The Unicorn customers are empowered to achieve their maximum potential for independence and productivity in the workplace and in the community through specialized Unicorn programs.

Founded in 1984, The Unicorn Center is the only site in Bexar County offering life enhancement through the combination of half-day contract work, life skills training, job placement, job coaching and long-term follow-up. Unicorn serves approximately 200 customers each day, with ages ranging from 18 to 80 years old. Unicorn Centers, Inc. is part of the Mission Road Ministries family of agencies.

POPULATION SERVED

  • 200 adults ("customers") with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities. 
  • Out of the 200 “customers”, almost 60 hold employment in businesses throughout San Antonio.

FACILITIES

  • 28,000 square foot facility at 4630 Hamilton Wolfe Road in the Medical Center
  • Recreational/Work-Out room 
  • Sheltered Workshop for the Extended Employment program
  • 'Four Seasons' Dining room
  • Day Habilitation, living area.

PROGRAMS

  • Supported Employment - Almost 60 adults who hold jobs in business throughout San Antonio
  • Extended Employment - Customers work in the Unicorn's Sheltered Workshop completing sub-contracted jobs
  • Site-Based Habilitation - Provides social, recreational and educational activities
  • Enclave Operations - A group of customers who work out in the community doing a special project (i.e., Janitorial duties at Grace Lutheran Church).
